“God’s love was revealed among us in this way: God sent his one and only Son into the world so that we might live through him.” I John 4:9
Advent: He is coming.
Immanuel. God with us. God of love. God is love.
A baby, a miracle. Hope divinely conceived.
A virgin gives birth to a son. God is with us.
Love that waits. Love that works, love that swallows us whole. Love that never fails. Never.
Love beyond comprehension, and beyond recognition. Love clothed in skin and bones.
Love laid in a manger, love awakening hope and life.
Love, washing feet, touching the untouchable, knowing, and seeing, Love that covers all.
Immanuel. God is with us.
Hope welling up and faith bursting into bloom. But Love. The greatest of these is love.
Tender, humble, a savior making tiny fists. Love, made flesh. Love, sharp and bright.
He has come to save us from our confusion. Now and not yet.
Love, faithful and hopeful. Oh, Bright Morning Star.
Loving Father – who made a way for us in love, through love, because of love – draw us nearer. Clear our confusion as to who you are as we look to your Word to guide us. Spirit, illumine our hearts and shed understanding into our minds. Redeemer, may we honor both your birth and your sacrifice in our gatherings this holiday season. Strip away our excuses, our trappings, and our extravagance. Be the center, the spotlight, and our reason for the season and in light of eternity.0
